Public Murals: "Ghettoish"? » link
A mural adds color to a handball court, bringing youth together to create art and address public health issues. But a woman in the area calls the mural “ghettoish.” ….
It’s true that public art cannot please everyone. However, I feel like its always a good idea to take a step back from traditional (and perhaps out-dated and ethnocentric) beliefs to evaluate things like this. What does “ghettoish” exactly mean? How does this weigh against the benefits that this mural provides? No right or wrong, but certainly food for thought.
