Murals and Yoga: Lessons Learned

Holy week-long hiatus! I was up in Rehobeth painting a mural at Hot Yoga Delaware. I didn’t expect to come home converted to bending my body into crazy positions in 104 degree heat, but turns out? I did.
Painting a mural in the company of the amazing Holli and Lisa (the wonderful ladies who own and run Hot Yoga Delaware) changed my world:
- The Hot Yoga DE girls are dedicated to their students and to yoga. Beyond exercise, yoga is a life practice that holds meaning and love for them. Their living of the yogi dream translated for me into, ‘Paint murals! Keep painting murals!’ Dedication and love for what you do fills me up with a warm feeling, and I’m excited about the path I’m on.
- After a couple of days of painting in the studio, watching yoga students come out of the hot room drenched with sweat, I finally got the guts to take one of their yoga classes. Surprisingly, despite the fact that my muscles were shaking with fatigue and sweat was pouring out of every single possible pore, I freakin loved it. I felt …woken up. Clearer. Like I was acknowledging things from the depths. Loopy as it may sound to a skeptic, yoga goes beyond physical effects. It seems to release something negative and embrace something positive, and it was emotional and spiritual and it felt good.
So, what a week! My painting dedication has brightened and I’m a converted hot yoga lover. I can’t wait to find a hot yoga studio in DC and continue my practice and learning. Check out the new mural that I painted during my week of wow,-yoga-is-AMAZING awakening…
